In 2021, Marvel Engineers was engaged by Cohesive to provide input into the development of the Austroads Guide to Digital Engineering.
Providing the input was Director James Gleeson. He was called upon given his expertise in digital delivery, stakeholder engagement and project management of major infrastructure projects.
Working closely with Arcadis, James helped define the project team’s understanding of the current state of digital engineering practice across transport agencies in Australia and New Zealand. He looked at in the context of current strategies, standards, benchmarks and technologies through a series of stakeholder workshops.
James explains, “Using Miro board, we were able to engage with over 40 representatives from several engineering consultancies.
“The information collated from the engagement helped articulate the need and challenges of current digital engineering practice, in a very short amount of time.”
With further collaboration and fine tuning since the initial engagement, we were excited to see Austroads release the guide in late 2024.
The guide highlights the necessity for a strategic approach to digital engineering emphasising careful consideration and planning. It underscores the importance of establishing a solid business case, governance, a phased implementation roadmap, and metrics and case studies to benchmark outcomes.
